The point of this assignment was to learn how to use shades, tints, and tones with pure colors and create a twelve piece active color wheel. By starting with the purest color of say, red, yellow, or blue, and then adding a white, grey or black, the changes to the color wheel begin to happen. Adding white to a pure color creates a tint, adding black a shade, and grey a tone. By adding more white to the color that already has been 'tinted' the pure color dulls and you are left with a stronger tint and less of a pure color. The color wheel farthest to the right contains the earth tones. These are yellow ochre, burnt sienna, and paynes grey. These colors are specific to the earth tone wheel and can not be created with primary colors. I think this exercise was very useful in learning how to produce the different colors in the different color wheels and it educated me on the earth tone pallet along with the primary pallet. | TermsShades - A hue that has been made darker Tints- A hue that has been made lighter Tones- A hue muted by gray Pure Colors - Colors that are full, they do not contain any tints, shades, or tones. |
